Cheektowaga Town Board Meeting - Showing of Solidarity, at the Cheektowaga Town Hall
MEETING MOVED TO SLOAN FIRE HALL - PLAN TO ARRIVE
EARLY -
SEE LATEST
ANNOUNCEMENT,
6:45 PM. Called by
Citizens Against Casino Gambling in Erie
County (CACGEC).
The Cheektowaga Town Board is meeting
Monday at 6:45 p.m. We know that our friends from Citizens Opposing New
Casinos in Established Residential Neighborhoods (CONCERN -- that's the name
of the group that has recently formed in Lancaster) plan to attend. We would
like to have some of our members join them as a show of solidarity with
these folks who are facing a very imminent threat of a casino right across
the street from their elementary school, and to encourage them to broaden
their opposition to a casino to encompass the larger community. At the same
time, we want to indicate to the Town Board that there is opposition to a
casino anywhere in the county, so that this problem cannot be solved by
picking a different site in Cheektowaga, and it most certainly cannot be
solved by dredging up the Buffalo proposal. We especially encourage those of
our members and friends who reside in Cheektowaga or Lancaster to attend.
See the Call
to Action for more details.

Monday, September 15, Buffalo, CACGEC
Erie County Hall Picket, in front of Cheektowaga Town Hall,
4:00-5:00 PM.
Citizens Against Casino Gambling in Erie
County (CACGEC) will conduct an
informational picket on Monday, September 15, from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., in
front of County Hall, 95 Franklin Street, in Buffalo. The picket line will
form on the east side of Franklin Street, between Church Street and West
Eagle Street, in front of the new County Hall, directly across the street
from the old County Hall. As always, the picket is to be
non-confrontational. We will engage passersby in conversation, but will not
obstruct their movement in any way. Signs and leaflets will be provided,
but you are encouraged to bring your own. This picket will be part of
Casino Opposition Week, so we'd really like to have a good turnout. We
are picketing at County Hall in order to indicate our continuing opposition
to a casino in Buffalo, in Cheektowaga, or anywhere else in Erie County.
This is all one community, and we all have a stake in it -- all of it.
See the Call
to Action for more details.

endless wars and gifts to the
rich has come home to Buffalo. On Tuesday, Buffalo Mayor Masiello
handed a four year financial plan to the Control Board. The
public--including all the groups who depend on city funding--has three days
to read it and figure out what's being taken away. Then on Saturday the
Control Board says they want to listen to our comments. They will approve
the plan 10 days later. Masiello and County Executive Giambra have
joined the bankers on the Control Board, and they are no longer OUR
representatives. If it mattered to them what we think, they would have
given us understandable information and enough time to prepare our
responses. We think this is an insult and a charade!! ON
SATURDAY MORNING THE BUFFALO FORUM HAS ANNOUNCED A PICKET LINE AT THIS
HEARING TO OPPOSE THE CUTBACKS AND TO DEMAND THAT WE HAVE A REAL VOICE.
See call to
action.
