Special Guest Speaker: Liz McAlister Peace activist & co-founder of Jonah House (wife of Phil Berrigan) As the Bush Administration nears its January 27 deadline for a decision on war against Iraq, please join us and thousands of others to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King by bringing his message of nonviolence to the White House. A short rally will be followed by a march to the White House and the offering of nonviolent civil disobedience to resist this drive to war. Gather at Farragut Park at 11:30am. (The Park is between "I" and "K" Sts. and 17th and Constitution Ave., NW. Metro stops are either Farragut North (Red line) or Farragut West (Orange or Blue lines). We encourage everyone to bring the words of Dr. King on placards and posters. A mass nonviolence training and meeting will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 7pm, location TBA. It is strongly encouraged that everyone contemplating participation in the nonviolent civil disobedience action on Sunday participate in the nonviolence training on Saturday evening. Since the activities of MLK weekend in Washington DC are rapidly evolving, it is also strongly recommended that you check in at the Iraq Pledge of Resistance website, at www.peacepledge.org/resist, for any changes in times or gathering locations, as well as for the announcement of the training site on Saturday night and additional details to follow. We look forward to joining with you in nonviolent resistance to war. "Nonviolence is a powerful and just weapon, which cuts without wounding and ennobles those who wield it. It's a sword that heals." - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Sponsored by the Iraq Pledge of Resistance and United for Peace.
