May Day Buffalo has called for several days of events surrounding the May Day holiday. It seemed kinda appropriate, given our name. Here's what we'll be doing: Thursday, May 1st: Anti-war Reading, Rust Belt Books, 202 Allen: Subversive Theatre is sponsoring a reading of Irwin Shaw's anti-war play "Bury the Dead." Friday, May 2nd: Critical Mass Ride, 5:30 PM: Route TBD May Day Social: "Not One Youth For War and Empire!", 6:30 PM. Access Storefront Project 3180 Main Street. The May Day Social in Buffalo is being organized as a political and social evening where high school and other youth can meet others active in opposing U.S. empire and standing for another world. Join us for an informal evening of discussion, food and refreshments. Sponsored by Buffalo Forum. Punk/Hardcore Show, 7 PM, 99 Custer Street: Do you like music? So do we! So come to the show! Saturday, May 3rd: Women in Black, 12 PM, Bidwell Park: Women in Black is an inclusive, weekly, silent and solemn vigil for peace. May Day Buffalo will stand in solidarity with WIB and we encourage others to do so as well. Walmart Protest, 2 PM, 5033 Transit Road Williamsville: Rally against Walmart's labor practices at home and abroad! Sunday, May 4th: Haymarket Commemorative Rally/March, 2 PM, UB South Campus Station: May 4th is the 117th anniversary of the Haymarket affair, in which 8 radicals were framed by the government for their role in the struggle for an eight hour workday. Outrage over the execution of four of the Haymarket defendants led to the establishment of May 1st as an international working class holiday. Join together to honor the memory of the Haymarket martyrs and to continue the struggle against injustice. Radical/Activist Carnival, 3 PM, Shoshone Park (near Main and Hertel): Come hear speakers, eat, drink, and play! Meet others and discuss how we can move forward towards a just and sustainable world. Benefit Show, 6 PM, Broadway Joe's 3051 Main Street: Good music for a good cause -- the Access Storefront Project www.accesscommunity.net __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
