From: "Venceremos Brigade" Subject: solidarity event 8/04/03 Date: Sunday, July 06, 2003 1:27 PM Please Forward/ Share with all individuals and organizations you can. Come out and support the Venceremos Brigade as they stand up for OUR RIGHTS to travel freely. "Given today's precarious political climate, globalization, the façade of U.S. democracy as demonstrated in the recent presidential election, and the constant search for a justification for U.S. military expansion, it is now more important than ever to make the connection between the issues we are facing at home and the aggressive agenda the United States maintains toward Cuba." "It is time to ask ourselves why we know so little about a country so close, and why such a small county poses such a large threat." That is a statement presented by the Venceremos Brigade who have been traveling to Cuba every year since 1969 to initially help harvest in the fields and who now work to build schools and hospitals throughout Cuba. Commemorating this year as their 34th trip to Cuba, the Venceremos Brigade will be presenting their trip as a public "Travel Challenge." They hope to challenge the Bush Administration's policy and travel ban, as well as provide an example of encouragement for us all to stand up for our rights. We hope to count on you in creating a community welcome celebration on Monday August 4th, 2003 from 8am-2pm in Front Park. We ask for all of you to lend your support and make proper arrangements to be able to contribute as we to come together in celebrating the return home of the 80+ travelers from the Venceremos Brigade as they walk across the Peace Bridge into the U.S. We shall also share in a community picnic. Food, games, activities for children will be provided. (if you would like to bring a dish to share, that would also be excellent.) Please be in contact if you/ organization are interested in helping plan this event and / or would like to share ideas about how you can help make this a more fun, interesting, educational, community rich event.
